Gateways & Virtual
Terminals
The Internet
Gateway is an automated Internet connected server that emulates a
terminal. There are a few ways to Post transactions to the server--
from your web page, via the Virtual Terminal (see below) or by passing
through transactions directly from your server. Internet Gateways or
programmed servers are designed to receive transactions and process
them in an automated environment. Like a credit card terminal,
the server checks with the banking network and responds if the card is good. When
responding to a transaction posted at your website, the server sends
the approval or decline message back to the server that hosts your
site. If approved,
you script your site to display your approval response page confirming shipment will
take place, or allow instant access to the information or files the
customer is
buying. If
the card is declined you can provide an error message such as prompting the customer to use
another card. Gateway approved transactions respond with an
automated email confirmation to both the customer and merchant. You may also automate
additional e-mail responses to your shipping department or supplier, or additional
scripting onto your server to create a completely automated environment.
You may utilize your own shopping cart order entry system or in some
cases we can provide the shopping cart at no charge. We will provide you with simple HTML code to add to your Website order
form for online real time processing. You may also integrate your
server billing system to pass through dr dre headphones transactions in batches.
These functions vary by Internet Gateway, so please be sure to check
with one of our representatives.
The
Virtual Terminal is a secure website page where you
can enter transactions and view reports, accessible by utilizing your PC
or Wireless-enabled Palm Device (see below). To access the page, enter
the USER NAME and PASSWORD we provide. The Virtual Terminal can be
used for processing telephone orders, fax orders, mail orders, off-premise sales and billing administration.
You may also attach a card
reader to your PC or PDA to allow for swiped transactions through the Virtual
Terminal.
-
Wireless-enabled
Palm and Cellular Devices
Now you can accept credit cards "on
the go" when utilizing a Wireless-enabled Palm or Cellular Device anytime...anywhere you have wireless coverage.
Transactions are passed through your wireless carrier
to the Internet Virtual Terminal, as keyed-in,
or SWIPED if you have a card
reader attached. Now
you can increase your sales with the benefits of mobility and simple transaction
processing. Plus, you can reduce the potential of fraud,
disputes and chargebacks. You may also qualify for a retail
swipe merchant account with lower discount rates.
Please review the Internet Processing Gateways on the
Systems Chart.

Transaction
Types
You can Authorize charges and Post transactions for
payment all at once as a SALE... or, you can Pre-Authorize a card through the Terminal,
Software,
Internet Gateway or by calling our 24 Hour-A-Day Voice Authorization Center, then Post
the transaction for payment at a later time. (i.e.. off premise sales or
if the terminal is not working) You can also Void or Refund
transactions.
When utilizing the Internet Gateway, if the goods
will be physically shipped, you might set up the transaction to be processed
as an Authorization Only, reserving the funds subject to shipment,
then, upon shipment, Post the transaction for
payment utilizing the Virtual Terminal.
Or, you may just set up the transaction as a Sale in order to Authorize
and Post the transaction for payment instantly, relieving you of the
second step (Posting a transaction) as described above.

When Are Funds Transferred?
Your captured transactions are deposited to your checking account
within two business days of settling out your daily batch.
You do not have to submit the signed sales draft for payment unless
requested, so you need to save these in the event of a dispute so you can
substantiate the transaction.

Automatic Host Capture
Unlike many other processors, we automatically capture each
transaction as they are submitted - when you utilize our Retail Host
Capture Program - so, if you do not want to worry about closing out your
terminal or would prefer an automated solution -- such as integrating your
website with online processing -- or if you have a have a power failure or
you just forget to close-out (settle the batch) at the end of the day, we
automatically settle your batch for you at 5 am EST, assuring your funds
are transmitted to your account promptly.

Terminal Capture
Restaurant and Lodging Terminal Capture Programs require you to
manually close the batch for payment via the terminal, since there are
adjustments like tips and additional room charges that have to be entered.

Swiped Transactions
Since the terminal "reads" the magnetic stripe, we know the
card is present which greatly reduces the risk of disputes and possible
chargebacks. You will receive the lowest rate for these type of
transactions.
go to top of page
Non-Swiped Transactions
You can manually key in the credit card number if the card is not
readable or not present, i.e. (a) bad magnetic stripe, (b) off-premise
sales keyed in at a later point in time, (c) posting pre-authorized
transactions, (d) mail or phone orders, or (e) Internet or other automated
transactions.
Always
obtain an imprint whenever possible, in order to provide proof of the
transaction if requested. This will help to prevent possible
chargebacks.

Address Verification System
The Address Verification System (AVS) is available when authorizing
transactions via telephone,
terminal, computer or Internet.
You are
prompted to enter the customer's billing address (street number) and zip
code, whereby you will receive a response along with the approval number
verifying if the address
matches the billing address and / or zip where the cardholder receives their
statement. When using AVS on keyed in transactions, if the address and zip
matches, your transactions are considered "Qualified", which are
billed at a lower rate due to the lower risk of the transaction.
Transactions that do not match are considered "Mid-Qualifed" and
are billed at a slightly higher rate. If the AVS does not match, you might decide not to ship
the goods or services, as the true cardholder would know the address and
zip. The AVS
thereby can reduce the risk of fraud and/or chargebacks due to usage by
non-authorized buyers or customers
claiming they did not receive the merchandise. When shipping
merchandise, we recommend using a carrier where proof of delivery is
required.
